Project Description: This renovation project of two early 1900s buildings was completed with a conscious eye toward preserving the historical appearance while adding state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems. Roofing, windows and doors also were replaced, masonry maintenance was completed and accessibility standards were achieved. In addition, the interior was transformed from underutilized space to active administrative offices as well as student study and lounge areas. Though ahead of the LEED movement, this project was constructed with the oversight of a leading sustainable design consultant who focused on energy efficiency and use of local materials.
Firm Role: Congleton-Hacker procured the renovation portion of the project through a select competitive bid process. The connector was accomplished as a design-assist when Berea College decided to add the connector as a change order.
