Project Description: This project involved the construction of the first LEED-Silver certified building on the University of Kentucky campus. The project houses graduate programs in computer science and electrical engineering and is headquarters for the Center for Visualization. The building contains dry labs, classrooms, faculty offices and a teaching/demonstration auditorium with full teleconferencing capabilities. The building’s electrical requirements are supplemented by self-generated photovoltaic cells mounted on the roof. The project required a high level of conceptual estimating, particularly involving LEED and an intense level of critical path scheduling and site planning for construction activities.
Firm Role: As CM at Risk, Congleton-Hacker Company provided Pre-Construction Services including conceptual estimating, constructability analysis, value engineering, macro scheduling, critical path scheduling, bid package definition, post-bid review and post-bid negotiation administration.
